Hi! GitHub Education may have trouble verifying your application if you're connected through a VPN or if your IP location doesn't match the country of your educational institution. I recommend:
If you've already applied while using a VPN, you can contact GitHub Education Support and explain that your IP location was affected by the VPN. They can manually review your application if necessary. Good luck! |

VPNs can affect GitHub Education's verification process. Try disabling your VPN and reapplying with your real network connection. Also ensure your application includes a valid student ID or proof of enrollment and that your institution details are correct. If the issue persists, contact GitHub Education Support and explain that your location appeared different because of a VPN. |

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. A VPN can sometimes affect the verification process because it may make your location appear different from your actual country. If possible, try disabling your VPN and accessing GitHub from your normal internet connection before submitting or resubmitting your application. Also, make sure:
If you've already submitted your application while connected to a VPN, don't worry. If your application is not approved, you can reapply after disconnecting the VPN or contact GitHub Education Support with an explanation that your IP location was affected by VPN usage. They can review your case further if needed. Best of luck with your application! |

Thanks for the update. Since you've already tried those steps and the
issue still persists, it sounds like this may require intervention from the *GitHub
Education team* rather than something you can resolve on your own.
At this point, I'd recommend waiting for a member of the GitHub Education
team to review your discussion. If they need any additional documentation
or information, they'll let you know here.
I hope they're able to help you get this resolved soon.

The VPN could definitely be a contributing factor if GitHub's verification system uses IP-based checks as part of its fraud or eligibility review. A VPN may cause your apparent location to differ from your actual country of study, which can sometimes trigger additional verification or even a rejection. I'd recommend the following: 1.Turn off the VPN and submit your application again using your regular internet connection, if possible. If the application was rejected solely because of the detected location, the GitHub Education team is the best group to review your case. Be prepared to provide proof of current enrollment (such as a student ID or enrollment certificate) through their official verification process if requested. Many students use VPNs to access online services, so explaining your situation clearly and ensuring your application details are consistent can help the support team evaluate your eligibility more accurately. |

We couldn’t verify your academic affiliation based on your submission (Jul 14, 2026) for user @nshioguinnocentezekiel. Issues to address: Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your last name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. If you have only a single legal name, enter it in both the first and last name fields of your GitHub billing information. Your document does not appear to include a date demonstrating current academic affiliation. For countries utilizing non-standard calendars, you may need to capture the original document beside one with a converted date. You may include multiple documents in your image, so long as they are legible. Please ensure that your academic affiliation document contains your first name exactly as it appears in your GitHub billing information. Variations of your name and nicknames are unacceptable. You are unlikely to be verified until you have completed your GitHub user profile with your full name exactly as it appears in your academic affiliation document. Please do not use a variation of your name or a nickname. Once you have updated your profile information log out and log back into GitHub before re-applying. That is the message I kept getting even after correcting and fixing the errors |

Verification Help & Guidance
Hi everyone,
I am doing my bachelor's degree in China. I am applying for "Education Benefits" through my university's Edumail, but I was rejected. The problem is that my location is showing differently due to using VPN.
