Trying to prompt github app authorization for an account is not convenient when logged in

endpoint: /login/oauth/authorize

This endpoint takes an login query parameter which

Suggests a specific account to use for signing in and authorizing the app.

If opening this when logged in, github shows a screen with

• all the user accounts in the account switcher, and no other
• the currently logged in account at the top with a green "continue" button, regardless of the login value
• github automatically sorts the query parameter when it redirects to login/oauth/select_account so the user can't even see the login parameter unless they scroll to the middle of the URL (because login is between client_id and state)

When not logged in, github redirects to the login screen and prefills the "username or email address".

Yes : ( the UX is terrible and super frustrating

The thing is, GitHub's multi-account session manager completely overrides the login hint if the user already has an active session. It just blindly defaults to whoever is currently active instead of the account you requested, making it ridiculously easy for users to authorize with the wrong profile.

Until GitHub fixes this to actually pre-select the requested account in the switcher, the only real workaround is to strictly verify the user's identity during your OAuth callback. If they authorized the wrong account, you just have to throw an error on your app's side and tell them to try again.
